This workshop is designed for the hand appliqué enthusiast who wishes to learn Pat's no-nonsense techniques for those advanced appliquérs who want to sharpen their skills. Achieve perfection in stitching, rounder circles, sharper points, and smoother curves. The graceful motifs and joyous color combinations typical of the 17th century crewel needlework will inspire the making of a family heirloom.
Begin work on your very own Rhapsody, from Jacobean Rhapsodies, 1998, C & T Publishing. Experience Pat's enthusiasm for brilliant color in exotic fantasy botanicals, while learning new options in template making, innovative methods of background marking, quick and easy bias stems and flawless finishing.
Provided for you: template-ready pattern, needles, thread, applique pins
You need to bring: scissors (embroidery-type and paper-cutting), pin cushion, thimble, white marking pencil, mechanical lead pencil, sandpaper board*.
Fabrics: a colorful assortment: e.g., tone on tone (two color prints), large tropical prints, hand-dyes, including lush greens and browns for leaves and tree trunk plus an exciting array of flower colors. Fat quarter of your favorite background fabric, or you may wish to work on a muslin background and choose something exciting later.
*For those who don't know, a sandpaper board is simply a small piece of fine sandpaper adhered to a piece of plywood, foamcore, old clip board or manila folder. Its purpose is to keep your fabric from moving while tracing templates.
Class time: 6 hours
Skill Level: All Levels
Supply fee: $3.00
Jacobean Rhapsodies will be available at class or bring your own copy.
